4GB DDR3. (Its 2-slot so I plan to add another 4GB stick.)

With the above specifications, the HP looks like a laptop capable of light to moderate gaming. AMD graphics card and AMD processor might be a little behind compared to Nvidia and Intel combination, but it should be sufficient if you are not going into the power hungry games.

The HP Pavilion isn't really a gaming laptop. They're great for watching movies and light gaming but trying to play some of the newer games would strain it. As for a Dell, might be a better choice but personally, I've never been a Dell person. Their XPS series are better for gaming but the Studio series are better for movies.Try checking out Asus, they have some good PCs so they might have some good laptops.
