There are a few different types of 7.65 cartridges, to include:

  • 7.65x53 (this was used by Argentina in their Mausers and FN49 rifles)
  • 7.65x25 Borchardt (this was used only in the Borchardt C-93 pistol)
  • 7.65x21 Parabellum (this was used by Germany before the adoption of the 9mm Parabellum)
  • 7.65x20 French Longue (used in Modele 1935 pistol and MAS-38 submachinegun)
  • 7.65x17SR (this is also commonly known as the .32 ACP)

Bearing in mind that different countries and manufacturers throughout the years have had different standards of measurements for their bores, it would be considered to be in the .30 caliber range. Generally, cartridges ranging from 7.62mm to 7.7mm (such as the .303 British) are considered to be .30 caliber rifles.

The .380 ACP (also known as 9x17) and 9mm Parabellum (9x19) have a considerably larger bore than the 7.65.

What is the difference between a 9mm handgun and a 380cal?

The 9mm Lugar round is longer than a .380 Caliber, which is also equal to 9mm in diameter. The overall cartridge and the bullet is larger and the case contains more powder. The 9mm Lugar is more powerful. BTW, the .40 cal Smith and Wesson is also called a 10mm. It is only 1mm larger in diameter and a little more powerful than a 9mm Lugar.

Is a parabellum 9mm the same as 9mm luger?

Yes it is. The 9mm Parabellum ( latin for "For War" ) was invented by Georg Luger for his Luger 9mm semi-automatic pistol. Thus they just called it the 9mm luger round. Both names are correct for the same round.

Is a 380 calibur bullet the same as a 9mm bullet?

The .380 ACP is a type of 9mm... 9x17, and is sometime referred to as the 9mm Short or 9mm Kurz. It is NOT the same as the 9mm Luger/Parabellum (9x19), and it is NOT compatible with any other type of 9mm cartridge (such as the 9x19 Luger/Parabellum, 9x18 Makarov, 9x21, 9x23, 9x25, etc.).
