Smoking is almost universally believed to be very bad for your health. It directly contributes to cancer, Heart disease, and respiratory diseases such as emphysema. If you smoke you are much more likely to die younger and more painfully than a non-smoker.
It is an expensive habit which stops you from spending your money on things like clothes, music, food, and drink.
It makes you stink: your breath, your hair, your hands, and your clothes all smell disgusting. It damages your sense of smell and taste: you cannot tell how bad you smell, you cannot appreciate nice smells like perfume and good food, and you cannot properly taste your food.
Also, the nicotine drug, makes you addicted and you can't stop. It makes you less physically active, you have so much drugs, your heart has to beat faster than usual, instead of "calming your down" as smokers say. You also might have to go through surgery and might get your tongue, jaw, or mouth taken away because of the cigarette. Smoking is proved to be the prime trigger of mouth and lung cancers. Quit now, don't put your life in Jeopardy.
Yes, I don't know anything about what they put in it except tobacco (I think) and nicotine drug (thanks 2 the last answer) which are very harmful. All I did was give my opinion and that got deleted. I'm disappointed.
Smoking is bad for you for multiple reasons:
1. it is scientifically proven that women who smoke go through menopause 2-4 years earlier than women who don't smoke.
2. it turns your lungs black and kills a part of them so that they no longer can be used.
3. did you know that smoking acually raises your stress level, when you feel stressed
that is your stress level dropping and when you smoke you raise it back up to its 'natural' stress level.

However, there are some good effects, though they can be obtained other ways. Nicotine can help calm the mind, and holding an object in your hand can help you be less nervous. Some claim that cigarettes help them lose weight. While nicotine probably plays a role in that, part of that is just doing something with your hands and mouth other than eating.
Yes, a cigarette has tar in it and that causes a buildup of it in the lungs. Smoking can also cause throat cancer and yellow fingers. If you smoke near anyone else, they can breathe in the smoke and that is almost as bad as smoking itself

Cigarette smoke, bartenders annual exposure to smoke rises, at most, to the equivalent of 6 cigarettes/year.
146,000 CIGARETTES SMOKED IN 20 YEARS AT 1 PACK A DAY.
A bartender would have to work in second hand smoke for 2433 years to get an equivalent dose.
Then the average non-smoker in a ventilated restaurant for an hour would have to go back and forth each day for 119,000 years to get an equivalent 20 years of smoking a pack a day! Pretty well impossible ehh!
Smoking cigarettes is bad for you, yes. But, the category is marijuana, and I would have to say no. You will get the "marijuana body" though (skinny legs, large love handles, for men - saggy/flabby pecks).
