Rockbox was created on 2002-06-02.
As a website Rockbox was first founded in late 2001. Soon Rockbox began targeting digital audio players and general-purpose devises as smartphones and tablet computers.
To set a backdrop on Rockbox, first go to settings. Then select themes. Finally, click on the selected theme for backdrop.

It behaves like a virus, infiltrating the flash memory of you music player, but it supposedly makes your player better. It is your call but when I installed rockbox I wasn't too impressed and when I wanted to uninstall it it was a pain in the a**. My advice is don't download it, not worth it.
not as of now, but there working on it! more info: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaFuze#Fuze_v2
there web sites says, you just drop a Sansa official Firmware in the root of your card.
Trying to compare Rockbox and Linux is like trying to compare apples and oranges (unless you are talking specifically about iPodLinux or something similar). On the one hand, you have Rockbox. It's meant for MP3 players. It has very specific functions that it was designed to do: play music, and maybe run the occasional game. On the other hand, you have Linux. It's a fully-functional operating system. It has many functions that are not limited to controlling an MP3 player. It can be used to serve websites, design graphics, make films, write documents, build programs...you get the idea. From personal experience rockbox is easier to install and has a lesser chance of bricking an iPod. With Linux its pretty easy to brick an iPod installing it.
