Phenethylamines are a class of drugs, not a drug in itself. Typically, phenethylamines have psychoactive/hallucinogenic and or stimulant effects. The most common illegal one is Mescaline (found in Peyote cactus), but in many places the cacti themselves are legal as they grow naturally and are used for religeous rights. There are quite a few unscheduled drugs in the Phenethylamine class, mostly in chemical research, but the United States passed an act to ban anything chemically similar to illegal drugs, so this doesn't bypass the laws there anymore. There is also a legal gray area in many other countries when it comes to unscheduled Phenethylamines because distributors are technically not supposed to sell things as "drugs" to be consumed, but for "research purposes" only.
