Landline phones have not reached the point of being obsolete just yet, while mobile phones have significantly decreased the need for their usage. The more elderly portion of society has yet to lose the need for a landline phone, for some the idea of using mobile phones can be daunting and extremely difficult considering all that has been crammed into them and for some comparison of phone bills is reason enough to maintain a landline phone in their home.

Well land line phones are not obsolete in the terms that nobody have them anymore, but in terms of other services available, then yes getting a cell phone is more practical.
