I would say alcohol, definitely. Alcohol is physically addictive, and cold-turkey withdrawal from it can easily kill you. You can also overdose and die on it fairly easily. Alcohol is literally a poison. Marijuana, on the other hand, cannot kill you unless you smoke so much of it that you end up with lung cancer. Its physical effects on the body are minimal. It's virtually impossible to overdose on it, and even if you do manage to overdose on it, you most likely will not die. And since it is not physically addictive, there are no physical withdrawal symptoms.
Using only marijuana cannot lead to a lethal overdose. In fact, one needs to take 40,000 times their usual amount to overdose. However, it can lead to a temporary overdose known as greening out. Also, there are cases of death as a result of marijuana abuse and heart attack.
Alcohol results from fermentation, a process that occurs naturally without human intervention. Therefore, alcohol cannot be stopped.
Saline solution cannot increase blood alcohol level.
No. Lidocaine is a safe analgesic for alcoholics. It's the pills that may follow the procedure that can cause the problem. Be certain that ALL your doctors know that you cannot have mood-altering substances, then check with a pharmacist to make sure the doc knows what he's doing. Your sobriety and life could depend on it.

An element is a pure substance that cannot be split into simpler substances by chemical means while a mixture is a combination of two or more substances
Yes - if it is something that you can overdose from with 20 of them - like arsenic. No, if it is something you cannot overdose from with 20 of them - like sugar.
Marijuana, although illegal, does not have as many negative side effects as alcohol can have. Both, in moderation are fine (although I cannot do both at once) but neither should be done in excess. Overindulgence in alcohol can cause many adverse reactions such as alcohol poisoning and death and there are no documented (medically or otherwise) cases of marijuana overdose.
Elements.
There is no exact formula. Denatured alcohol is mostly pure ethanol (drinking alcohol) which has had something added to make it poisonous (denatured or unnatural) so that it cannot be drunk. Different substances can be added for this purpose... thus no formula.
An element cannot be separated into simpler substances by chemical means.
Substances that cannot be chemically broken down into simpler substances are called elements.
