It depends if the audio of the video is protected by copyright. For instance, if you are talking about using YouTube to download music, (which is what I'm assuming you have in mind since one of your tags is 'iPod,') then no, it is not legal. Let's say, however, you want to download the audio of a news report or something. That would be perfectly legal.
many people say its illegal because you have not purchased it. but what its not technically downloading free music. its downloading the audio from a video. sharing music is illegal, but i dont see anything illegal about saving audio from a video
use online youtube downloader. I usually used keepvid.com. This web can download with many format.
You would have to download the YouTube video. Unless the video is under a Creative Commons license, downloading a YouTube video is against the YouTube Terms of Service.

You can usually find music on Peer-to-Peer networks such as BitTorrent (such as the pirate bay, isohunt, mininova, etc.) or Gnutella (such as FrostWire), although depending on copyrights and where you live, the legality of this is questionable. You can also download music from mp3 or other audio format downloading sites (such as Ogg/FLAC/Wav), but most of these sites require you to pay for the music. However, putting music into a YouTube video may violate international copyright law, and most likely will be removed by the owners of the copyright owners. Another legal option is, once the video is uploaded already, YouTube allows you to add music from a list of legal songs, although this will force advertisements to be displayed next to your video, which many YouTube users do not like. Also, doing this will make it impossible to restore the original audio track on the YouTube video.
Yes, if you own all rights to the content in the video, it is legal to upload your video to YouTube. If any graphics, images, or sound, are owned by someone else though, you may not be able to upload the video to YouTube due to copyright.
What? If you meant how many megs does it take to download a youtube video, it will depend on how big the video is
yes, you can, if you don't mind a video with it. (youtube)

Going right to YouTube and downloading their app for video downloading is the best and quickest way to go. I've seen several different programs for downloading video to YouTube but find that going right to the horses mouth(so to speak) is usually the better decision.
