Yes. There are several resources that justify that it is indeed safe and free.
You can see just some of the site links if you search Yahoo Answers; as this question is asked by many people ;)

Apple was eager to please the music industry, and design iTunes and iPod to prevent piracy of music, which is what you are asking instructions for. It is nearly impossible to do what you ask without a 3rd-party program of some sort. You could find CopyTRans by Googling for it, and load it on your iTunes computer. I haven't used it, but they say it works OK.
Limewire itself is safe. However the files you download using it may not be.
It's not "safe" to breathe. If the proper precautions are taken, and you're downloading legally free music as opposed to pirated music, you're probably reasonably safe.
.beemp3.com we7.com And those are the only safe & Legal sites I can think of.
use copytrans
I would recommend copytrans.
copytrans
The most popular software for the iPod is the iTunes application, which is necessary to install in order to purchase music from the Apple iTunes store. Other related top applications, CopyTrans, the CopyTrans Driver Installer and CopyTrans Manager, are applications that allow the iPod to access third party content without hacking the device.
use copytrans is easier, drag and drop
You will need to download CopyTrans. I added a link to the download.
i use copytrans is great and free
Yes, so long as you don't have any illegally obtained tracks. Legally obtained tracks can be transferred without risk
all music and stuff related to the ipod can only be transfered using itunes or some ipod management software like copytrans
you will have to dowload some things. But they dont cause viruses or slow down your computer or anything. 1)go to musicoasis.com and dowload music oasis. 2) go to copytrans.net and download copytrans 3)in music oasis look for the songs you want to add. 3) then got to copytrans click on the box that says free 4)connect your ipad 5)click on the part of your screen that has a adding button with an old ipod 6)click on the songs you want to add
Yes of course. There is many iPod managers you can use. I use CopyTrans Manager: http://www.copytrans.net/manager.php It's a freeware. You can find other alternative here: http://ipodmanagers.blogspot.com
An iTunes account is required to activate the iPhone. iTunes is not a subscription service, and as such, does not collect a monthly fee. If you never purchase or rent anything from iTunes, there will be no charges from Apple or iTunes. The wireless phone service provider (AT&T in the United States, O2 in Great Britain, T-Mobile in Germany, Orange in France, etc.) will charge a monthly fee, however. That fee is required for the service, but is not billed by Apple If you do not wish to use Itunes, there is a safe program that is called "CopyTrans." this is simply a way to add songs to your ipod without Itunes. Just type in the keywords: "CopyTrans" into google, and answers will come in!
