The AK 47 is an assault rifle originally made by Russia but now manufactured by many manufacturer in different countries. It has been in service since 1947.

A Dragunova is Sniper Rifle designed in 1958 and chosen in 1963 after competition and in general use in the Warsaw Pact nations.

The AK47 was built in 1947 by Mikhail Kalashnikovin 2 versions- the fixed stock AK47, and the folding shoulder stock , the AK47s. "AK" is an abbreviation for Avtomat(automatic) Kalashnikov, "47" year produced 1947. The design began in 1944 and in 1946 the rifle was put into miltary trials. The AK47 was officially accepted by the Soviet Armed Forces in 1949. This rifle is now being produced (as I had written earlier) in many countries; Albania, Bulgaria, China, Germany, Egypt, Hungary, Iraq, Iran, India, Finland, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Serbia(Yugoslavia), Sudan, Vietnam and Venezuela.

Dragunov is the last name of Fedorovich Dragunov born 2-20-1920, he was born into a family of gunsmiths. After serving in the Russian Army as a gunsmith, Dragunov constructed 27 various firearms one of which is the famous SVD sniper rifle which actually competed against other rifles for the gun of choice for use as sniper rifle for the Russian Army. The SVD which started as the SSV, has many similar physical characteristics as the AK47 but virtually nothing is interchangeable.

So to answer the question simply, no the AK47 is not the same as a Dragunov.
