Yes, it is. Several authors cite infidelity as a reason for breaking up. People tend to lose their sex drive over time, so the person that is 20 years older will have less of a sex drive generally. As time goes on, the younger partner might turn to an outside source for sex, which can cause the marriage to fail. Also taste in music, politics and other things can slowly erode a marriage if either partner turns to peers for similar tastes. They can work, yes. But, the chances of them working are less than normal marriages and normal first time marriages only last on average 8 years (according to the US Census).
