Absolutely not! Here's why:
- The "piercers" at claire's only have to read a short manual on how to use the gun. They don't have any knowledge about piercings and aftercare. Certified piercers are required to take courses in First aid, and Blood-borne pathogens. They also attend workshops on how to perform different piercings, what jewelry is appropriate, and how they should be take care of afterwards. They are also required to undergo an apprenticeship for at least 9 months. Getting a certification can take years and I'd much rather put my health in the hands of a certified piercer than those of a simple sales person's. Claire's employees very commonly give out wrong information in regards to aftercare.
- Claire's also uses piercing guns. These are TERRIBLE for any piercing. Guns force blunt studs through you ears, causing unnecessary trauma and pain. Yes, some of the studs have pointy ends, but they are no where near as sharp as a needle. These guns can also function. Its quite common for the guns to jam, meaning that the stud is in your ear, but the gun is still attached to the stud. The best analogy for guns vs needles is this: Using a gun is like punching a whole in a wall and needles are like stabbing the wall. Punching it creates a mess with unnecessary surround damage. The knife creates a clean hole and it penetrates the wall easier and faster. Guns can also shatter cartilage, resulting in permanent disfiguration.
- Lets talk about the jewelry. Claire's is known for having terrible quality jewelry that literally breaks down inside of the piercing. Poor quality jewelry can cause reactions and severely irritate the piercing. It can also harbor bacteria and increase the risk of infection. The backs are another problem. Guns force the backs onto the stud, resulting in a really tight fit. These backs are very commonly stuck in place on the back of the jewelry. This is terrible for swelling. Any new piecing is going to swell and if the jewelry is too tight, you ear can basically swallow up the jewelry. Not only is this painful, but can be a pain to get corrected.
I know this is a lot of info, it turned out longer than I expected XD Just PLEASE don't go to Clai'res for piercings. Go to a professional!! :)
