When we all shot 35mm film, we all produced images with the same aspect ratio (3:2), and the ever popular 4x6 print is based upon that. '''In the digital world, however, digital cameras do not all share this 3:2 aspect ratio, and as a result, all digital photos do not convert well to 4x6 prints. The most common aspect ratios for digital cameras are 3:2 (most digital SLRs) and 4:3 (most compact point-and-shoots). Some cameras allow you to choose your own aspect ratio. Aspect ratios differ between manufacturer and even between models from the same manufacturer. Awesome, huh? ''' What is aspect ratio? Aspect ratio is simply the relationship between the width and height of your image--as you see in the chart below, we get the aspect ratio of an image by reducing the numbers to their lowest common denominator.
Print Size ---> Aspect Ratio
4x6 ---> 3:2
5x7 ---> 7:5
8x10 ---> 5:4
20x30 ---> 3:2 Some day, this discrepancy may sort out--maybe labs will print in other aspect ratios and maybe manufacturers will agree on an aspect ratio. Until then, here are a few things you can do to prevent an Insolent Cropping Crisis:
# If you know what size you like to print, get a camera that agrees with that aspect ratio.
# Some labs (try Snapfish) allow you to select "true digital size" and will not crop your image.
# Print with a lab that allows you to select your own crop when you want to -- try myPhotopipe.com.
# Be vigilant when taking your photos and leave enough "safe space" around the edges so that an auto-crop won't cut off anyone's head or eyeball or some such. # Write to your congressman. If they have time to pioneer HDTV, they have time to save us from crappy crops.

Usually, no. There's not a huge price difference in the cost of digital printing vs. photo printing, but the quality of photo printing is still higher. Digital printing involves printing tiny dots of color on paper to create an image while photo printing is done on photo paper where you don't see dots.
Some photo developers are able to put the pictures onto a CD and then you could do digital printing. You could also scan the photo into the computer and then use digital printing.
Digital photo printing paper from Kodak is great for printing your photos.
Cheap digital photo printing can be purchased from a variety of different retailers. These retailers include Wal - Mart, Boots and also from Walgreens.
You can print it on your computer printer, take it to a photo lab that has digital equipment (these days, they all do) or put it in a page layout and print it on a printing press.
Most commercial digital printing places will use high quality paper and inks, but these may also be used for traditional photo printing. Here is a website with more info http://commercialdigitalprinting.net/

Printing photos involves a lot of cost, especially when you have to keep the quality of the print in mind. There is nothing more disappointing for a photographer to have bad quality prints of their well captured digital photos. That is not neccearily true. There are some digital presses that use actual ink. The Heidelberg QM, and the HP Indigo. The difference between digital printing and conventional printing is Digital printing is printed with CMYK toners, offset printing uses regular ink, not toners. I found information about this when i was inquiring about printing for my school for the coming year and did lots of research which guided me to http://www.superfineprinting.com/ Good luck on all your printing!
In reality, when you print a photo they don't print it as a true 4x6 or 5x7. They always crop the top and bottom for the photo. So, for example, it is actually 4x5.3 instead of 4x6. When you print it in true digital they don't crop it at all so you get a true 4x6.
A digital photo is a photo that can be shared electronically.
