I'm not exactly positive of the rife used in the 1969 movie True Grit, but John Wayne had a fond preference for his Winchester Model 1892 Repeating Rifle. One major distinguishing characteristic of this rifle is the large, oversized loop on the loading lever. John Wayne had one with a large gold "JW" emblazoned on the wooden stock. Here is a link to a replica of that rifle that was made By Winchester beginning in 1892.
