For people of European heritage, A unit of alcohol will normally be metabolized in about one hour so 20 units would require 20 hours before you are free of alcohol.

However, there are some human cultures where ancient tradition was to boil water for drinking rather than using brewing to sterilize it and this has lead to some genetic selection in the human population. Some people of East Asian and Native American descent lack a genetically coded enzyme that breaks down alcohol efficiently and the time it takes for these people to get alcohol out of their systems may be longer.

Assuming you don't die of alcohol poisoning....

A "unit" of alcohol is defined as the amount an average person's body can process in one hour (8 grams of pure ethyl alcohol).

That 280 units over 7 days works out at an average of 40 units per day.

Since, over a period of seven days, the excess alcohol would accumulate at the rate of 16 units (128 grams) of alcohol per day, at the end of seven days you would still have a minimum 896 grams of alcohol in your body. Since this is twice the dose at which 50% of the population would be dead, the chances are vanishingly small that you would survive. Hence, the remaining alcohol will never come out of your system entirely, unless you are cremated. In theory, if you survived and had a fully-functioning liver, it would take another 4-2/3 days to clear.

If I drank alcohol Friday evening and had to take a urine test the next evening would it show up positive for alcohol?

Well there is two types of alcohol tests. One test for your urine is a simple 24 hours test for alcohol which will come up negative if it is the next night. That test runs by drink per hour. But there is a test called a ETG test. This test WILL detect alcohol in your system for 72 hours after your last drink. This is a urine test and it will hold up in court if you come up positive. Tehre is now way to get around it. So stop drinking if you have to take a urine test for alcohol. Oh and i know this beucase i run a urine drug testing clinic.

If I drink 8 tall boys of an evening what time in the orning will I be able to drive?

One alcohol unit is measured as 10ml of pure alcohol. This equals one 25ml single measure of whisky (ABV 40%), or a third of a pint of beer (ABV 5-6%) or half a standard (175ml) glass of red wine (ABV 12%) The average human liver process approximately 1 unit of alcohol per hour. This means that if you drink 12 units, it'll take you roughly 12 hours to fully sober up. For your "tall boy", you need to work out how many units are in your cans (beers in cans come in different strengths), this will be written on the outside of the can. Realistically you should wait until you have metabolised ALL the alcohol before you drive.
