For many men, cheating on the spouse or girlfriend is not about love or their desire to spend their life with anyone else. Sometimes it's ego, sometimes it's for attention that they can't get from their partner, perhaps is purely sexual, and sometimes they do want a divorce but don't want to be the one to end the relationship. It's true, that a spouse that cheats may very much love their significant other; but clearly, they don't have a lot of respect for their partner.
