maybe he didnt mean to say that to his friend. Say to him in a kind and civil way 'why did you tell your friend that you wanted me to leave you alone, but your still talking to me?' then you'll have the answer.
let him know that you really like him, and want that you want to speak to him more. And also let him know that if he wants you to leave him alone then say it to you, not to his friend.

Maybe he's trying to teach you a lesson, or perhaps he's just a jerk, or then again maybe he's just trying to be polite and be your friend although he'd really rather you cut out the mushy stuff. You want to know which, ask him, not us.
