Well a couple of things need to be done. First you need to learn how to do things right, piercing and ear then stretching it up a few weeks later is not how you do it (some how I think you are getting the point now). Second you need to know that the initial piercing needs to heal completely (3 to 6 months)before stretching a piercing ( if the tissue is still trying to heal stretching just damages the tissue to an irreparable condition). All stretching is done on healed and seasoned 14g piercings, seasoning a piercing takes 3 months of more. Stretching a piercing is done one gauge at a time, one gauge once every month (no faster) over several months to enable the tissue to properly stretch without swelling and tearing the piercing. The swelling is due to the tearing you have caused and will take several weeks for the tissue to settle back down to looking normal. My suggestion to you is simple you want to have stretched lobes, so take that stuff out of your ears and get some help from a professional body piercer. Get your lobes pierced at 14 gauge and leave them alone until they are healed. Once healed, get some help from the same piercer to stretch your lobes up properly the first time. Last thing you want to do is screw your lobes up and have everyone else with stretched lobes look at you like your some kind of idiot. And I do mean idiot. Experienced piercing fans can spot a DIY miles away for many reasons. Your need to develop a respect for your body and yourself before you get involved in piercings. There are methods used to do these things properly please take the time to learn before doing something you will regret later.

How do you know if pierced ear is swollen?

I'm pretty sure it is normal. Everyone's ears are different. Your ear is probably not used to the material, so when it fully heals then you should take it out for a while and try to soothe it. I am a guy and when I got my ears pierced my left ear always took longer to heal and it was also swollen.
