Your question is rather vague- however- by chance did you see an internet question where someone asked about a JC Higgins rifle or shotgun- that had YOUR serial number? Unfortunately, there is a simple answer. That is NOT a serial number, but a Sears model number. Prior to 1968, serial numbers were not required by law on rifles and shotguns. Sears marked their guns with a model number- such as 583.134. Thousands of people have taken that to be a serial number. If this is what happened- sorry. If this did not answer, please contact me through my answers.com message board.
