slave scramble was when the slaves were placed on the boat and men were on one side and women on the other and at the sound of a gun men would dash onto the ship and grab as may slaves as possible
Historically, slavery began in Biblical times with Jews being slaves to the Egyptians in Ancient Egypt. They were slaves to the Pharoahs. Slavery started because someone thought they had the right and power to enslave another human being, usually for economic gain. For example, slaves built the Pyramids. Colonial United States just continued centuries of someone in power believing they could own another person. Britan practiced slavery and indenturehood-- and thus, when colonists came to America, they continued what they knew, except that people discovered tons of free labor in Africa. The first white man who physically took an African woman or forced African men onto ships continued centuries of practices of overwhelming a country and taking by force. Britan saw a huge need for their elite citizens who moved to America to have free labor. Thus, slavery was inevitable. Ironically, American settlers did NOT try to enslave American Indians, at least not en mass. Perhaps one reason was that Native Americans fought back with scalpings etc. Perhaps Europeans thought of Indians as "savages" and less able to be taught that the black slaves. Or, perhaps the Europeans suspected that if they took Indians as slaves, they would anger and incite ALL the Indian tribes... at a time when white men wanted Indian lands.
the 13 year old in the paper last week couldn't hold onto his
Native American's were NOT moved onto reservations in the great plains in the early 1800's, it was the late 1800's. They were moved there for the same reasons they were always pushed into these areas; the US Government and its people wanted their land and its natural resources.
Slaves resisted slavery in many personal ways as well as more bolder, public ways. They are as follows: -They used African American churches, which they were sometimes but rarely permitted to attend, to sing songs promoting equality and hope, two things they could only dream of without the gift of music and the church - They occasionally stirred up slave rebellions, such as in the case of Nat Turner at Harper's Ferry, Virginia. - They occasionally, as is obvious, escaped their masters (which was difficult to do). Slaves also held onto their culture and appreciated the values of family, which brough them closer to other blacks, free OR captive. Hope it helped! Ari
black people were the only ones who were slaves.
The white people didnt understand the language that the African people spoke so they thought they were animals. And for how, well they all were just sort of shipped onto a boat and carried them off. Hope this helps :)
Yes, waterspouts can capsize boats. They can also move onto land to become full-fledged tornadoes.
AnswerThe slaves were captured from their tribes by people (usually part of another tribe) crept up and either threw a net of clubbed them until they were unconsios. They then transported the to a fort where they were held ready to be take onto boats by the traders. The slaves were mainly bought by british boats from the African traders and were taken to many countries including parts of South America, and some parts of asia, but mainly to the United States. Most of the slaves, Over 35% were shipped to Brazil and South American colonies, not the then non existent U.S.
Boats flip over due to much excessive weight put onto one side of the boat, tipping it over.
Who's they? White people? Or black people? White people actually didn't catch any slaves. Lots of people are misinformed and they think white people just showed up on boats and rounded up a bunch of tribal Africans by pointing guns at them and forcing them onto their boats. What ACTUALLY happened is African tribes and kingdoms were constantly at war with each other, and sometimes they captured each other to sell each other as slaves. Black people sold slaves to other black people and to Arabs for many hundreds of years before America was colonized by Europeans. When the white people who owned plantations wanted to save money by using slaves, they went to Africa to buy them because that's where there were lots of slaves for sale to anyone who would pay for them. Black people captured other black people in wars and then sold them to white people. Actually, Africans were already living in the United States along with many other nationalities. If you read "Before The Mayflower," by Lerone Bennett Jr., you'll learn that the white plantation owners tried to enslave whites, but they escaped and there was no way to identify them. Next, they began enslaving Native Americans. However, the Native American slaves were getting sick because the conditions were too harsh. It was only then that the plantation owners began enslaving Africans, known as Moors at the time. When they traveled to Africa, the African leaders had no idea that their form of servitude would turn into 300 years of the worst form of slavery known to humankind. It had not been practiced that way in Africa. After wars, captured prisoners became servants for a period of time. African chiefs did not know the slaves they released to the free world would be packed liked sardines on a ship and forced to lie in their own excrement. They didn't know they would be beaten with a cat of nine tails, castrated and treated worst than animals. However, after a point, they attempted to stop selling the slaves. The slave ship owners dispatched catchers who stole human beings. Many of those slave ships were owned by the Barclay brothers, whose descendents now own banks (funded by the blood, sweat and tears of African captors). Europe then proceeded to carve up Africa, pillage and colonize it. (This answer is by Denise Crittendon, not the answer above.)
After the passengers on refugee boats are rescued and brought to Christmas Island, the boats are usually towed out to a specific designated area, burnt and sunk.
Indentured servants and slaves came from parts of Africa. The African villages were raided and the people were taken and herded onto ships and taken to Europe and the United States. There, they were sold at auction like cattle.
No. Strict laws limited the rights of enslaved people in most northern colonies. Slaves could not travel or go onto a ship without written permission.
Which slaves? There were hundreds of shipments, with varying ages. It drives me insane when people just obviously copy questions off of worksheets onto answers.com without even explaining the question! PLEASE stop this!
Tanks got to the beaches of Normandy in same ways soldiers got to the beaches. They were sent via amphibious boats which rolled onto the beaches and enabled tanks to drive out of the boats and onto the beaches of Normandy.
it is a fort that slaves are taken to before getting onto a slave ship.
