Some were treated well, some very badly, but they were slaves, and that was the issue, not how they were treated.

Inhuman treatment of others is immoral, even if one is nice about it.

they were beat, tortured, whipped, raped, murdered, etc. the list is so long. Some might have been treated well but they were still property. No one deserves to be someone elses property. They were treated like animals or even worse. no one was treated properly and no one ever survived 1 year there. poor people were taken there and put into slavery but so many people died that only a few people lived. :-D

How did agriculture in the upper south differ in the deep south?

In the upper south, agriculture was more sparse, with people producing their own vegetables, raising their own livestock, and making their living off of hunting deer, bears, cougars, etc. In the deep south, these were where the big plantations were located that held slaves to look after the big fields of cotton and tobacco. The soil down south was better quality than in the north of eastern USA, because the deep south didn't have the Appalachians and Adirondack mountains to work with.

What if the CSA won the American Civil War?

If the CSA had won, then the USA would still be divided in two today, with the South keeping its slaves.

Was the confederacy joined by Florida and Texas?

Yes. Those two states were among the first to heed South Carolina's appeal to secede from the USA - it was the Deep South that broke away first.

Why was cotton called the king of the south?

It is called king because slavery was on its way out. Once the cotton gin was created slaves were needed to harvest the cotton. Cotton was a major export of the usa it was almost 50% of USA's exports.

Where did most slaves work?

There were types of slaves and this told what job they did. There were house slaves that worked in the plantation house and there were slaves that worked with the crops. Some slave women were nannies to the plantation children and others were cooks as well as did cleaning and laundry. Many of the male slaves worked as blacksmiths, repaired items, and planted/sowed/reaped crops, took care of the animals. ________________________________________________________________________ In the thirteen colonies, the slaves worked in the south like Florida in cotton fields and plantations. Their "masters" did not like to work so they told these slaves to do all the work for them. Soon, most of the slaves became free when they went to Canada with the help of Sir Guy Carleton. They had to hide to avoid being caught on the frontier between Canada and USA.
