Although A Christmas Carol was published in London by Chapman and Hall on 19 December 1843 just in time for the Christmas book trade, another first edition of the same book, although minus most of Leech's illustrations, was published at about the same time as the result of a recently negotiated agreementt between the Baron Christian Bernard Tauchnitz in Leipzig and the Dickens.
