You may OWN a gun at any age. You may not POSSESS a firearm under the age of 18, except when supervised by a person 18 or older (training hunting, target shooting). There is also an exception for possession of a firearm in the course of agriculture (ranching) with the written permission of parents. Does not apply to members of the military n duty.
