A septic tank should be pumped every 3 to 5 years depending upon the number living in your household.

I cannot agree with the above statement it is too simple and ignores logic.

It may not be obvious, but septic tanks come in various sizes!

A property may well be fitted with a septic tank suitable for a large family.

Over the years the children grow up and leave home, until there is possibly only one or two people using the septic tank.

From this, you can appreciate that a blanket statement.

A septic tank should be emptied every "..." many years, is illogical and a waste of money!

Most areas have a minimum size, that is suitable for four people, a lot of users are singles or couples.

Do you expect them to have their septic tank emptied every "...." years?

Lets be sensible about this.

A septic tank is full and needs to be emptied, when it is half full of composted/processed solids!

And/or the space at the top, that starts off full of water, is perhaps a third to half full of oils and fats.

A sensible owner will measure the contents of their septic tank, before throwing good money away having it emptied.

A sensible owner who is keen to save money does not use a waste disposal unit, does not dump food, fats, oils, salt/sodium or waste of any kind, into their septic tank, they feed the birds and animals and compost.

How do you describe toilet paper?

Toilet paper is a soft paper product (tissue paper) used to maintain personal hygiene after human defecation or urination. It differs in composition somewhat from facial tissue, and is designed to decompose in septic tanks, which some other bathroom and facial tissues do not. Most septic tank manufacturers advise against using paper products that are non-septic tank safe

How do you test to see if a septic tank is working properly?

It is good to contact a professional. They use a special dye that they run through the lines and out to the tank. If none of the dye makes it above ground, it is working.

How and where the sewage is disposed in your home?

For primitive household: Waste water would discharge through canal, some would install the open septic tank for toilet water which allow water to absorb down through soil. For modern household: Usually water from sink, bath tub and washing would discharged directly to municipal sewage system. Water run down the toilet bowl would go through a close septic tank before discharge to municipal sewage. For apartment or share housing: All water will pass through primary treatment like oil trapping or septic tank then discharge to municipal sewage.

Why did water come up from the ground when a truck drove over your lawn?

Probably busted water line, sewer pipe, or septic tank. Then again it might be a natural source, like an Artesian well, but the odds of that are slim.

When you flush a toilet on airplane where does the waste go?

Waste water created inflight is stored in a holding tank on the aircraft until the plane sets down. When it's on the ground, a service truck rolls up and pumps the contents of the plane's holding tank aboard. A waste station at the airport serves to empty the truck's tank into the community waste water processing system.
