You should clean ANY weapon when one of these three conditions have been met: 1. It is dirty/wet. 2. You are planning on storing it. 3. You have fired ammunition with corrosive primers. I've cleaned weapons after each trip to the range, and then some I've cleaned after every few trips.... I found no difference in time spent, or in difficulty in cleaning. My carry gun is kept clean. I inspect it weekly and change ammunition each time I shoot it. Yet that is reserved for the weapon I trust my life to. My other rifles and pistols are kept clean because they're stored between trips to the range.
