The serial numbers on these guns ended about 170,000 and were not ever offered in 38 cal. ONLY 44 rimfire. This one sounds like a real problem child. Likely a wall hanger made up from part of many other guns making the value minimal at best. True collectors would not be interested in any gun made up with odd parts.
The Model 1873 was made in .38 caliber. That would be .38-40 to be exact. The serial numbers used for the 1873 go to more than 700,000. As far as your serial number is concerned, there is a chance that you are misreading the final digit, which you have as an '8'. If you look closely, you should see that the number '8' is actually a 'B' which was used on Model 1873's after number 200,000 and on some previous to that. It does not seem to mean anything. If that is the case, then your Model 1873 with serial number # 330857B was manufactured in 1890.

I would like to start out with the fact that your Winchester model 1873 rifle was made in the year 1879.As with all old collectable Winchester,s it would be best if you have a visual examination by a Winchester collector assoc.member to determine the value of such a highly collectable firearm.By having a kings improvement done to your Winchester, this will only add to the value of your Winchester.Good luck, and enjoy such a fine piece of American history.
