Very old refrigerators and air conditioners are using worth very little because they used freon as a coolant. It was determined that Freon is a major pollutant and is dangerous to human health. It can cause severe lung damage, permanent brain damage, or early death if inhaled. Further, because of freon's toxicity, old refrigerators and air conditioners cannot go to landfills or junkyards unless the freon is completely and safely removed.
