I was in a Dollar Tree store this morning and I saw stocked in the kitchen aisle matchboxes. There were 2-packs and they were the big matchboxes that (might) hold 250 matches, so if my guess of how many was in each individual box is accurate, then each 2-pack would hold 500! So for about $1.07 after tax, that's 53-54 cents per box or ~1/5 of a cent per match! Awesome deal but I can't recall if they were strike anywhere or "Srike on Box" matches. Bear in mind, each store may or may not have it in stock though, depending on what customers are buying a lot of. Sorry this is really long. Hope this helps!
In the 1960s, the cost of matches varied depending on the brand, quantity, and location. On average, a box of matches could cost around 10 to 25 cents. However, prices could be higher in certain regions or for specialty matches. It's important to note that inflation and other economic factors may have influenced the cost of matches during that time period.
