The amount of time it takes a cannabis plant to go from seed to harvest varies depending on a number of factors.

If you are growing outdoors you should start your seedlings indoors around the middle of April or beginning of may. They can then be transplanted outside after the last expected frost. Harvest time is generally around the middle of October. As you can see it is about 6-7 monts for an outside grow.

If you are growing indoors it will take a little less time. Once your seeds have sprouted you will generally put them on a light cycle of 18-24hr/day and keep them on it for anywhere from 4-8 weeks depending on the size of plant you want. Then when you want to start the flowering cycle you cut the light down to 12hr/day. The flowering cycle is usually 8-9 weeks. About 4 months is average for an indoor grow.

One thing to note: Outdoor marijuana can reach heights of 7ft. It will produce a lot more bud than indoors, but there is the added risk that your neighbors will turn you in.
