If you're concerned with determining calories based on weight, the best investment you will ever make is the purchase of a digital kitchen scale that measures in both ounces and grams. Quite often, people start diets and then get discouraged, resulting in them not using items they've purchased. So, you may be able to find a decent scale at a thrift store for much less than you would pay for a new one.
