It depends on your definition of "Best" several shoot over 1200 FPS but the best Airrifle is a competition class Feinwerkbau Olympic rifle that shoots at 500 FPS it's deadly accurate and will cost you between $2000 and $3000. Several other PCP (PreCharged Pneumatic) air rifles shoot around 900 FPS but they are not using a puny .177 pellet they are firing a 50 caliber ball and are used for hunting large game. These rifle come in all sizes and start around $300 and go up from there. An Airforce .22 cal Condor with accessories will cost you just over $1000. Don't get hung up on speed. Very fast FPS are usually attained by using lightweight pellets. these fly fast by are effected by crosswind. Heavier pellets fly slower and straighter and have more knock down power. (Did you know pellets come in different weights) Weight effects trajectory.
to many deaths from the use of them
In the airgun world 750 FPS is not considered extremely fast. Considering many airguns are capable of exceeding over 1200 FPS. Therefor almost any auto reset target can handle the slower 750 FPS strike from an airgun
