If you weigh 160 lbs, the energy required to cover that distance is approximately 205 kcal. If you weigh 100 lbs however, the energy required to cover the same distance is 50 kcal. (Joules = (weight in kg x (distance in meters^2))/(time is seconds^2), conversion rate of 1 Joule = 0.000239 kilocalories). This does not include basal metabolic rate which is the energy your body needs to keep your brain thinking, your heart pumping, your lungs inhaling and exhaling, your digestive system running its course, synthesizing new cells, excreting wastes, etc. The amount of energy your body requires just to stay conscious is downright dramatic compared to that for a leisurely walk.
