As we are all different, there is no perfect answer to this. Most 5 year old are however very active and need more. Some are on the other hand less active and need less. As a guideline approx 1.400-1.600 kilo-calories per day for a moderately active child. One should not monitor ones child's calorie intake unless there are some weight issues related. being underweight or overweight is a factor to consider. Eating-habits as in what one eat is worth gold. Teach your child healthy habits of food, and weight-problems as in to much weight will most likely go away as child is growing. To only give a child fried chips because that is all he/she want to eat is a terrible reason for carrying on giving your child this food. Serve your child proper ordinary food and when he/she is hungry enough, he/she will eat and most likely enjoy eating. It can be a battle to turn ones child into eating healthier food but for the sake of the child it is worth it in the end.
