From what I have read in pamphlets from companies attempting to sell kits to test hair for drugs, it remains in your hair as long as you have the hair that was growing in pouch-like structure below the skin called a hair follicle (What we see as hair is actually the hair shaft) at the time of ingestion of the drug. As you may know however, there are products that are capable of stripping your hair of the traces of drugs being tested for. Because the hair "stripping" kits actually work very effectively hair testing is rarely used. ( unlike all of the crap sold to supposedly mask drugs in urine)It is/was thought to be a better representative of a persons drug habits as continuous use of drugs would be represented by a positive result the entire length of hair, if it was intermittent use this would be represented by intermittent positives along the length of hair.

THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, can typically be detected in hair follicles for up to 90 days after use. This detection window can vary depending on factors like frequency of use and metabolism. However, hair tests are generally seen as one of the most sensitive methods for detecting THC.
