If a slave was to fight it would probably be for the north. I only know of one actual group of slaves that fought in the war. (There were a couple hundred in the group) and people were racist towards them, and they were also kept out of battles.

Slave ships were a large cargo used for transporting slaves to different country's . The slave ships were awful places and many people women , men and children were chained up and placed in a room on the ship . The people had to sit in there wee and poo and people who had died would stay there for 3-4 days before someone would clean them up.

The Europeans/Americans picked the slaves because they couldn't use the Native Americans to do work for them in the minds/fields since they couldn't adapt to the environment there. So they picked slaves since they thought slaves can adapt to this climate and work. Slaves probably had some skill of farming somehow, or just the skill of being able to stay hungry for a long time, in which they needed because some slave owners were mean as crap.
