Sienna is a limonite clay - iron bearing. Originally from Siena in mid-north Italy, though those original clays are now mined out. Current supplies come from Sardinia, and Sicily, and also from the Appalachian Mountains.

As to processing, it requires the removal of any grit or lumpy material, followed by crushing and grinding to reach the desired fineness.

What watercolors do you mix to make beige?

You can make a range of "beige" tints by diluting "brown" hues in your palette such as: raw umber or burnt umber -- raw sienna or burnt sienna. These mixtures, if diluted with enough water will be very transparent allowing the paper to show through. So, if you desire a more "flat" appearance to your "beige" try adding Naples Yellow to your "brown" hue.
