The distance a bullet travels depends on he caliber, powder, casing etc. Keep in mind that bullets rise shortly before falling. Example: 150-grain 7.62 x 51 mm NATO round rises +2 inches at 100 yds and drops -26 inches at 400 yards. Larger caliber 12.7 x 99 mm (.50 cal) has a reported maximum range of 7400 meters (roughly 4.5 miles).
