depending on the weight of the projectile, grains and type of powder loaded and length of the barrel of the gun, the 25-06 has definitive long range ability, if max distance of the projectile is the answer and I am not bothering to look up any ballistic tables, the 25-06 is capable of shooting down range at least 3 miles
25-06: The 25 means that it is a 25 caliber. The 06 means that it is a longer bullet than a regular 25 caliber bullet

25-06 is a 30-06 necked down to .25 caliber. Like it's parent cartridge it is long action.
.223 (maybe) definitely a .243. The BEST deer rifle is a 25-06 (Long story short .223 = good not much effect, .243 = GREAT for beginner, later on you will want a 25-06. 25-06 = BEST!)
