There are too many variables to give you a single answer. A .44 magnum will be MUCH louder than a .22 short. Air temperature also affects sound transmission- hotter is further, since the air is less dense. altitude will also have an affect, wind DIRECTION will have an affect- as well as what is around you- city buildings that reflect and absorb noise, heavy woods, or open fields. It may vary from a few hundred feet to a mile or more.
