The Thompson sub machine Gun (SMG) is a recoil operated weapon. Assuming the piece is loaded, one pulls back the bolt to ready the gun, and selects semi or full automatic fire. The recoil action of the cartridges drives the bolt back and forces a reciprocating fob producing the familiar rat-a-tat-tat. The Model of l92l Thompson has the knob integral with the back V-sight, a good aiming device on top of the receiver. Later Thompson guns used in World War II have the special knob (The bolt handle) on the right side of the receiver. The arms cycle-in full auto shoots about 500 round per minute (slightly more than 8 shots a second).
