This is hard to explain so I have included a link to a picture below (the one labled E is what I'm describing). Imagine the holes have numbers 1-5 on the left starting near the toes, and also 1-5 on the right also starting near the toes. First put the lace across your shoe and pull both sides down through the lowest holes (left 1 and right 1). Then for the lace on the left side, skip a hole and come up through left 3. The right lace comes up through right 2 and goes across the middle and down through left 2. The lace in left 3 goes across the shoe and down through right 3. The lace that went down left 2 comes up through left 4 and across to right 4. Repeat.
