Online gun auctions (gunbroker.com, gunsamerica.com, etc.) are full of photos. You can usually find examples that match your model, sub-model and period. There are many books (Fladermanns, Blue Book), but they do not have detaioled photos. There are also collector clubs of the most popular guns. Gunsmiths, though not as numerous as before, can also be helpful.
