Well, first you have to make sure it is the backlight and not the power inverter to the screen. The power inverter is the device that provides power to the back light, but if you are sure that the back light is dead, there is no way to replace it. You will have to get a new screen. You could try and replace the back light, but the back lights are thin glass tubes that have vaporous Mercury in them. So I strongly recommend getting a new screen.

∙ 12y agoWell first you need to figure out if you can get just the inverter. Some hp models are not sperate. That come with a replacemnt lcd panel. Also depending on the model will determine where the location of the inverter is. Most are on the back of the lcd panel.
