Make sure it is unloaded and it needs to be on safety. Then all you do is remove the magazine cap, release the retainer, let the spring pop out and then you can remove the plug.
My 94AE does have a pushbutton cross slide safety. It is one of the latest made in 356 Winchester, I bought it new after Winchester discontinued the 356 caliber. Also I have an interested buyer but he does't want the dies and supply of shells and bullets. Anyone interested?
The crossbolt safety on Winchester 94 has been introduced in 1992.
The Winchester
Your rifle may be a Winchester Model 490. If so, it should have a button type safety on the side of the trigger guard to the front of the guard. This pushes through from right to left to release the safety. Please contact Winchester through their website for an owner's manual for your rifle.
If there isn't a button, you can go to My Computer, right click the device, and in the menu, there should be an option to eject safely. If you remove it before you "safely remove" when you insert a pen drive you will the safety remove icon in your PC.

You can replace it, but you cannot remove it permanently. The neutral safety switch is a part of the Camry safety system. If you manage to remove it next time when you are passing the state inspection you very high chances to fail it. However, if your state does not have an inspection for licensing and such, you can connect a wire from a push button to the starter and battery. Then you just have to turn the car on with the key and push the button to start it. This is a cheap fix. But be careful because someone can crack the ignition and get the car to engage in the on position and the car will start by pushing the button. So my advice is if you do this always lock your doors!!
