There should be a little slide lever next to the clip on the bottom of the rifle. either push in or push forward and the clip will release.
depending on what you want to know the Remington model740 is the previous model b4 the Remington 742 they were chambered in many calibers for deer hunting and had a 5 rd clip

No there is no Clip.
Yes, I am using a 308 and a 243 clip in my 1954 760 in 35 Remington.
It may be just dirty or it may be dented. Inspect it and clean it.
