Some find that a 2Gb card is recognised only as 1Gb in the phone.
Reading posts in many forums, there are definitely many issues with these cards.
I bought a Nokia 6300 recently with a 128Mb card. It works fine in both the phone and a PC (Windows XP) using the supplied adaptor, but as it was too small for music and video storage, I decided to upgrade.
I bought a 1Gb card and attempted to copy everything including my own music and video clips, plus the Nokia folders (screensavers, themes, software programs etc.) onto it, using a USB cable or Bluetooth, with the Nokia Data Suite supplied, or onto my PC hard disk using Explorer.
I could not copy most of the Nokia 'proprietary' files anywhere, as they are read only and write-protected, but media files and folders presented no problem.
I have read (and seen) that the adaptor for the MicroSD has a sliding lock on it. Mine was not engaged, and I have two of them, but that could be the reason for some people's read write problems.
After several hours of research, I discovered that there is a way that developers can protect their programs on the newer, smaller SD cards by incorporating encrypted write protection and I suspect that this is why certain files and folders cannot be copied by any regular means.
Nobody seems to be admitting that they are doing this, especially Nokia, so there is no current solution, but it seems unfair that a genuine purchaser of a standard phone cannot upgrade fully to a larger capacity card.
I later found this page with a step-by-step solution:
http://www.retire-asia.com/microsd.shtml
Since writing this I notice that by early 2013, there had been over 210,000 visitors to that page, an indication of just how many people have problems with SD and microSD cards.
