My dad owns a professional carpet cleaning business and he cleans thousands of houses a year just for this purpose. The truck-mount (noisy) heats the water up to 500 + degrees (depending on your carpet fabric) thus melting the sap and lifting it with the suction in the wand. Therefore, if your lucky like I am, when you get your carpets cleaned monthly .. it should come out. Otherwise I would make an appointment to get it done. I know it can be pricey -- but at the very least you know your problem isn't permanent.
