I learned infections can get very bad have puss. If it ever does get that bad clean it right away and then remove the earring. Use peroxide or rubbing alcohol to clean the earring and the surrounding area several times daily. If you have a hoop-type earring, this is easily done by rotating the earring.
Go to the doctor if it gets worse in a day or two. If it is also bloated and red it is defiantly infected.
