As a kid we went to drive-in movies. The sound was wired. A speaker hung on a pole. We could put the speaker into the car and adjust the volume. Now there are some drive-ins are using wireless, even at drive-in restaurants but mostly they use the wired sound and microphone. I think the drive-in restaurants use really crummy speakers that are rain proof cuz they sound like someone talking through river pebbles.

In very busy drive in restaurants they have gotten smart. They have two people who take the orders and radio them in or run to the window to hand over a food order paper. No more fussing with a stupid speaker and microphone. They should all do that except in the winter of course.
