When we defeat our opponents we speak of how we shut them down, sometimes we shut them down by telling them to shut up. Score! The truth is, it is unclear why we use the term "shut up" to get other people to stop talking. What does the direction of the shutting of the mouth have to do with shutting up? I suppose if everyone had shutters on windows in their attic then telling them to shut up would be a little more confusing. There are many ways in which to tell another person to shut there mouth and in the future one of those ways may very well become to shut down our your biological hard drive!!
